Star Trek has been, without doubt, the most famous franchise in the history of TV shows. This series, that was created 51 years ago by Gene Roddenberry & although it stayed on the air for just 3 seasons it instantly became a hit. Gene created some memorable characters that influenced many. Three characters, in particular, would go like no character has gone before & garner an enormous following. So before I give my take on the new edition to the family of Star Trek that was released on 25 September 2017 on Netflix. I will give a brief overview of the most important three characters in the Star Trek universe. - Spock (Originally played by Icon Leonard Nimoy) like Darth Vader, without him there wouldn't Star Trek. His character always feels like someone who's fighting within not to show his true emotions which on this aspect alone can relate to many of us. This what made Spock withstand the test of time & become a household name in the science fiction universe & on the small & big screen. True that universe of Star Trek evolved like any TV show but in a way it still owes this because of Leonard Nimoy & his portrayal of Spock. - Jean Luc Picard (played by Patrick Stewart) his character we might not relate to as individuals. Yet his charismatic leadership & knowledge of old culture & history made him an instant Favorited for the fans. And don't forget his obsession with classical music & classical plays here some of us might relate. Picard like Spock brought a new dimension to this universe that proved to be a winning formula. I had seen the documentary called The Captains(2011) talks about captains of Star Trek. It mentioned that some producers of the show were against Patrick Stewart because of his theatrical background and thought it was a bad idea.Well, they were way off & that great for us trekkers. -The final character is James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner) although Spock stole the spotlight from Kirk nevertheless his character endured & evolved to complement the core of the show. In a way, Star Trek wouldn't become this huge franchise if there was no Spock. And Spock wouldn't have become a favorite to trekkers if it wasn't for Captain James T. Kirk. The conflict that later became an undying friendship was the basis for this show to succeed in my opinion. Now to talk about last night new series in the Star Trek universe. My initial impression of the episode it was in many aspects average. It was more of an introductory what might yet come. Am not going to go into details & spoil the first episode but I will talk about two of the main character the captain & her number one.Which evident there's emphasis on entering again an era in this universe where women play an integral part of the show like happened in Star Trek: Voyager. The captain(human) played, by Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh, reflect a more timid & traditional federation officer. And her number one Sonequa Martin Green who plays a Vulkan reflects rebellious nature like Kirk & emotion control(Spock). In general, the show promises to be a hit although the first episode was plain. Comments are closed.
