Since the founding of cinema and best of this massive industry was its innovation especially when it comes to storyline and technology (special effects); as years went by the latter continued its evolution and still sturdy. As for the storyline and ideas for films as years go by originality is diminishing and being replaced by ancient ideas from the past (remakes & prequels). Where is the originality & innovation of Akira Kurosawa, Michael Angelo Antonioni, Andrei Tarkovsky , Orson Welles and others , and even current visionaries in cinema such as Steven Spielberg , Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese ?
My opinion was always lack of originality from the upcoming directors nevertheless the revelation was even worse, the filmmakers of this industry have chosen the easy way out and in the case of Hollywood talk, the blockbuster way where box offices have the final say. Back in the 20s to the 60s filmmakers such as Hitchcock, and the famous international directors mentioned above and others even such as the eccentric Coppola cared more for the value of their feature film rather the return at the box office. What’s even scarier that famous filmmakers known for their creativity are currently heading for the TV shows attraction where essentially the real bucks come from and high diminishing of new & artistic ideas. Let’s be honest in this scary world of ruthless economy and uncertainty, filmmakers are people and have flaws are searching for the quick buck and this is truly shameful in my opinion; if I had slight portion of the talent of these people I would rather stick to the art in this industry rather than following the profits generated at the box office this is what made me fall in love with the cinema in the first place.
